Cotulla has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the Lytle Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Cotulla will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1559th, while Lytle is ranked 615th).
Cotulla pushed their score all the way to 66 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Hondo by a score of 69-66. Cotulla has not had much luck with Hondo recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Lytle ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They secured a 76-72 W over Natalia. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Lytle's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Chase Guevara, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, and Seth Pierce, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds. Pierce continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jayden Perez, who scored 14 points.
Cotulla has been struggling recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-16 record this season. As for Lytle, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matches, which somehow isn't as good as their 20-6 record this season.
Cotulla was dealt a bruising 78-35 loss at the hands of Lytle in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Cotulla, Jordan Balderaz (who dropped a double-double on 29 points and ten rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
