It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Blake Bengals had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They breezed by Whitman at home to the tune of 35-7. The victory was just business as usual for Blake, who after ten games remain undefeated this season.
Blake's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kirby Matson led the charge by throwing for 296 yards and four touchdowns on only 19 passes. Zandrew Kamara was another key contributor, rushing for 186 yards and a touchdown while picking up 10.9 yards per carry.
Blake pushed their record up to 10-0 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-11 Whitman and 1-9 Watkins Mill (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 32.7% over those games). As for Whitman, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
Blake will take on Suitland at TBD on Friday. Suitland is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Whitman does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
