The La Jolla Vikings will challenge the Morse Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
La Jolla is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Lincoln on Wednesday as they made off with a 23-2 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Ella Pearl was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Roxanne Metcalf was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs.
La Jolla always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Morse got themselves on the board against San Diego on Wednesday, but San Diego never followed suit. They blew past the Cavers 10-0. Considering the Tigers have won six games by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Reylyn Sakamoto made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Camryn Salvador, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Abby Okita, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Morse's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for La Jolla, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-11.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. La Jolla hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. However, it's not like Morse struggles in that department as they've averaged .347. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
La Jolla suffered a grim 12-1 defeat to Morse in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Vikings have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
