The Esparto Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 65-23 loss at the hands of Highlands. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Esparto has suffered since December 13, 2023.
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Antonio Seastrunk Jr., who scored six points along with two steals. Seastrunk Jr. is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Colt Johnson was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Highlands' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Damien Jones, who scored 17 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Micheal Agustus, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten steals.
Esparto's loss dropped their record down to 1-18. As for Highlands, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-10.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Esparto will take on Rio Vista at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Rio Vista has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 534 points over their last eight contests. As for Highlands, they will be playing at home against San Juan at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. San Juan is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
