Basketball Recap: Anton Mahler Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Cedar Valley

Hillcrest lost to Cedar Valley back in December of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Hillcrest Huskies came out on top in a nail-biter against the Cedar Valley Aviators, sneaking past 58-55. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Huskies as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Hillcrest got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Anton Mahler out in front who posted 20 points. Mahler has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Myles Mahler was another key player, putting up ten points along with five assists and five boards.

Several Aviators players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Owen Bawden, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards. Obed Borruel was another key player, going 5 of 7 on his way to 11 points.

Hillcrest's record is now 10-4. As for Cedar Valley, they dropped their record down to 5-7 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home.

Hillcrest will host Jordan at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Jordan's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games. As for Cedar Valley, they will venture away from home to square off against Mountain Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mountain Ridge will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Cedar Valley surely won't give up without a fight.
