Basketball Recap: Amari Taylor's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Widefield over Pueblo East

After flying high against James Irwin last Saturday, Widefield came back down to earth. The matchup between the Widefield Gladiators and the Pueblo East Eagles didn't end well, with the Widefield Gladiators falling 66-51. The Gladiators were down 55-29 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Widefield lost on Thursday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Amari Taylor, who posted 19 points. The dominant performance gave Taylor a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Trevin Stemler, who put up 14 points.

Jaden Garcia continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Pueblo East, going 8 of 10 from beyond the arc on his way to 26 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Garcia's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Micah Herring, who went 5 for 10 on his way to 14 points and three steals.

Widefield's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Pueblo East, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2.

Widefield didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 59-39 defeat against Golden on the 20th. As for Pueblo East, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 69-46 loss against Pueblo West on the 20th.
