The Academy Wildcats will be playing at home against the Berthoud Spartans at 11:30 a.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: The Academy has struggled recently with seven losses in a row, while Berthoud will arrive with seven straight victories.
Last Friday, The Academy suffered a tough 40-20 defeat at the hands of Fort Lupton.
The Academy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Sean Smith, who gained 144 total yards and two touchdowns, and Jase Farmer who threw for 189 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Berthoud really took it to Eaton for the full four quarters, racking up a 34-7 victory at home. The result was nothing new for Berthoud, who have now won six matches by 26 points or more so far this season.
Alex Larson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 240 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.9 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Larson, who rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries.
The Academy's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 0-7. As for Berthoud, their win on Thursday bumped their record up to 7-0.
The Academy strolled past Berthoud in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 by a score of 21-7. Does The Academy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Berthoud turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
