CYPRESS, Calif. -
Cypress (Calif.) saw its 14-point lead dwindle to eight, but still managed to hang on and defeat
Kennedy (La Palma, Calif.) 17-9 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a
Quinten Pounds touchdown pass to
Brennan Corbin in the second quarter, the Centurions led 14-0 at the half.
Cypress saw its 14-point halftime lead decrease to five entering the fourth.
Kennedy's only touchdown came on a 2-yard run by
T.j. Williams in the third quarter.
A 28-7 Cypress victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The victory was a step in the right direction for the Centurions, who were coming off a 24-14 defeat at the hands of Troy in its previous game. The loss comes after Kennedy defeated Pacifica 43-24 last week. The loss snapped Kennedy's two-game winning streak.
Cypress (4-1) goes up against Tustin in a Empire game matchup next week, while Kennedy (3-3) locks horns with Western also in a Empire game.
