Shaker and Guilderland are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Bison will host the Flying Dutchmen at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. Shaker is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
If Shaker beats Guilderland with eight runs on Monday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Bison's pitchers stepped up to hand Averill Park an 8-0 shutout on Friday. The game was the first time the Bison have beaten the Warriors on their field since April 24, 2017.
Tom Case was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Case was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other pitching news, Joey Gecewicz looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
Back at the plate, Jason Bailey was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Guilderland fell victim to Albany and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Falcons.
Guilderland also got a good showing from Jayden Henderson, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit.
On the hitting side, Guilderland saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Owen Balleau, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.
Shaker's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Guilderland, their loss was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Shaker has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 14.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Guilderland struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Shaker was able to grind out a solid victory over Guilderland when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 4-0. Will the Bison repeat their success, or do the Flying Dutchmen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
