The Freedom Eagles will head out to take on the Charles J. Colgan Sharks at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Freedom has given up an average of 7.1 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Freedom is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest defeat since April 3rd on Friday. They lost 11-5 to Battlefield. The Eagles have struggled against the Bobcats recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Meanwhile, Charles J. Colgan came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Bulldogs. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Dorsey Grose made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kayla Boatwright, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kayli Lamboy, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
Charles J. Colgan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matches.
Charles J. Colgan pushed their record up to 17-4 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Freedom, their loss dropped their record down to 10-12.
Freedom came out on top in a nail-biter against Charles J. Colgan when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
