The St. Bernard Saints won the last time they faced the East Lyme Vikings, and things went their way on Tuesday too. St. Bernard blew past East Lyme 73-47. Given St. Bernard's advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked sixth, while East Lyme is ranked 48th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
East Lyme's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brendan Osso, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds. Those seven rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Oliver Hibbard, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
St. Bernard has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. As for East Lyme, they bumped their record down to 4-2 with that loss, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Bernard's road trip will continue as they head out to face New London at 7:00 p.m. on January 5th. New London is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games. As for East Lyme, they will head out on the road to face off against Stonington at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
