The Eastern Eagles will face off against the Belpre Golden Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Eastern is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.
Eastern is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Marietta just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Wednesday. They took an 11-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers.
Braxton Yonker was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.
At the plate, Eastern got a big performance out of Caleb Abner, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Clayton Moore, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Belpre came up short against Frontier on Wednesday, falling 29-3.
Belpre saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joey Lockhart, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double was Lockhart's first of the season.
Eastern's loss dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Belpre, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.
Belpre's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Eastern has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Belpre, though, as they've been averaging 10.8 hits. Given Eastern's sizable advantage in that area, the Golden Eagles will need to find a way to close that gap.
Eastern was able to grind out a solid win over Belpre in their previous matchup on April 7th, winning 4-1. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Golden Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
