The South Oldham Dragons are taking a road trip to challenge the Shelby County Rockets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. South Oldham is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, South Oldham beat Pleasure Ridge Park 8-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Dragons.
South Oldham got a great performance from Harper Dickerson as she tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Dickerson has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kylee Black, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucy Knabel, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Model hit Shelby County with a seven-run fifth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Rockets took a 14-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Patriots.
Kaylee Cox was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.2 innings pitched. Cox was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Madison Clark made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Abby Blanton, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
South Oldham's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-13. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Shelby County, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-14.
South Oldham took their win against Shelby County in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 18-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
