The River View Raiders will head out on the road to square off against the James Monroe Mavericks at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in West Virginia (River View is ranked 67th, while James Monroe is ranked 46th).
Last Tuesday, River View was beaten by WestSide 64-37. River View was down 45-25 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Despite their loss, River View saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Kaci Hatfield, who scored nine points along with five steals, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Pruitt, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and four blocks.
Meanwhile, James Monroe can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent game on Friday. They blew past Montcalm 73-20 on the road. The victory was a breath of fresh air for James Monroe as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
James Monroe's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Maggie Boroski, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds. Mary Beth Meadows was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with eight assists and six steals.
River View's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-6. As for James Monroe, their win bumped their record up to 12-8.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: River View have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 39.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like James Monroe struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
River View took a serious blow against James Monroe in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 68-35. Can River View avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
