The Liberty Lions and the Centennial Coyotes (ranked 22 and 31 in the MaxPreps national rankings respectively) squared off in a high-profile game. Liberty strolled past Centennial with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 36-17. The win was familiar territory for Liberty who now have five in a row.
Navi Bruzon continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 371 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 15.5 yards per attempt, and also rushing for 139 yards while picking up 7.7 yards per carry. Bruzon was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 51 yards. Another player making a difference was Braylon Gardner, who picked up 194 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Although Centennial took the loss, they still got scores from Marcus Logan and Noah Carter.
Liberty's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-1. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 9-2 Salpointe Catholic and 7-3 Hamilton (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 64.7% over those games). As for Centennial, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Liberty will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Hamilton at 7:00 p.m. on November 17th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Hamilton is ranked sixth, while Liberty is ranked first). Centennial will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Desert Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on November 17th.
