Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the China Spring Cougars walked away with it. They strolled past Lake Worth with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 42-24. Given China Spring's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 134th, while Lake Worth is ranked 672nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lake Worth's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Cornell Avington, who picked up 127 receiving yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Damion Hopkins, who rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown.
The win makes it two in a row for China Spring and bumps their season record up to 8-3. As for Lake Worth, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-5.
China Spring will head out on the road to face off against Anna at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Anna will be looking to keep their seven-game home win streak alive. Lake Worth does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
