Even though the Monroe Hornets have not done well against the Franklin Wildcats recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Monroe managed a 57-51 victory over Franklin. For Monroe, this counts as revenge for the 47-44 loss Franklin walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.
Despite the loss, Franklin still got an impressive performance from Kai Cook, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds. That was a full 49% of Franklin's points, marking the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tito Harrison, who scored nine points along with four steals.
Even though they lost, Franklin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Monroe is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season. As for Franklin, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-5.
Monroe will head out on the road to face off against Madison at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Franklin won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Eaton at 7:15 p.m. on January 20th.
