The Sweetwater Mustangs had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Monahans with a sharp 49-28 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Sweetwater also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Sweetwater's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mallory Gibson, who scored 18 points. Another player making a difference was Hanna Vera, who scored 11 points.
Sweetwater has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. As for Monahans, they are on a 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-16.
Sweetwater will head out on the road to face off against Estacado at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Estacado presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Sweetwater in Texas (Estacado is ranked 235th, while Sweetwater is ranked 710th). As for Monahans, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Andrews at 1:00 p.m. Andrews is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
