The Belleville West Maroons will square off against the O'Fallon Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Belleville West is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
Belleville West not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 9, 2024. They blew past Collinsville 11-2. The Maroons haven't had any issues with the Kahoks recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Ellaina Jenkins made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Jenkins was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Belleville West let Addison Geluck and Charli Coppernoll run wild. Geluck scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Coppernoll scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Those runs marked the first that Geluck scored this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylee Asher, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI.
Belleville West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Collinsville only managed five hits.
Meanwhile, O'Fallon hadn't done well against Alton recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Panthers never let the Redbirds get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory.
Not much got past Kennedy Clark, who gave up just a hit and racked up 12 Ks to keep Alton off the board. With that strong performance, Clark is now averaging an impressive 5.7 strikeouts per game.
On the hitting side, Ella Klino was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one home run.
The win got Belleville West back to even at 3-3. As for O'Fallon, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.
O'Fallon's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Belleville West has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. It's a different story for O'Fallon, though, as they've been averaging 11.2 hits. Given Belleville West's sizable advantage in that area, the Panthers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Belleville West might still be hurting after the 14-3 loss they got from O'Fallon when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Maroons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
