It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Elba Tigers ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They snuck past Zion Chapel with a 79-73 win. The win was familiar territory for Elba who now have three in a row.
Defeat or not, Zion Chapel got some senior leadership from Slade Grantham and Jacob Chestnut. Grantham shot 5-for-9 from downtown and almost dropped a double-double on 32 points and nine rebounds, while Chestnut. scored 21 points along with two steals. Grantham continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Stuart, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Zion Chapel smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Elba's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-9. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.4 points per game. As for Zion Chapel, their loss dropped their record down to 20-8.
Elba has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on February 6th. Florala is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for Zion Chapel, they will face off against the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
