Byers is 7-2 against Falkner since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Byers Lions are on the road again and plays the Falkner Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on February 8th. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Byers stacked a ninth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Thursday. They breezed by Ashland on the road to the tune of 90-34. Given Byers' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while Ashland is ranked 241st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, even though Jumpertown scored an imposing 55 points on Tuesday, Falkner still came out on top. Falkner enjoyed a cozy 73-55 victory over Jumpertown.
Elijah Mauney and Chris Nunley were among the main playmakers for Falkner as the former scored 26 points along with six rebounds and three steals and the latter scored 25 points along with six assists and six rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Nunley has scored at least a third of Falkner's points. Another player making a difference was Chadarrius Bogan, who scored 12 points.
Byers has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 17 games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season. As for Falkner, their victory bumped their record up to 10-16.
Everything came up roses for Byers against Falkner in their previous matchup last Tuesday as the squad secured a 69-41 victory. Will Byers repeat their success, or does Falkner have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
