The Carondelet Cougars will face off against the Granada Matadors at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Carondelet fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Livermore on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cowboys by a score of 9-8. The loss continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the Cowboys: they've now lost seven in a row.
Myleiana Lopez was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Reese Albano and Angela Gates stepped up to the plate in a big way. Albano went 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI, while Gates went 4-for-5 with one run and one double. Anna Gustafson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Granada, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They came out on top against California on Tuesday by a score of 6-4 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).
Kamryn Brannon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on 11 hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kallie Brannon, who went 2-for-4 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Madison Trindade, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Granada was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.
Granada's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-7. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 2.6 runs across that stretch. As for Carondelet, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-11.
Carondelet couldn't quite finish off Granada in their previous matchup two weeks ago and fell 3-1. Will the Cougars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
