Softball Recap: Cotulla's Run of Eight Straight Victories Now Over

After a string of eight wins, Cotulla's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Natalia Mustangs. The Cowboys were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mustangs earlier this season, when they won 7-4.

Cotulla saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eloyandra Zertuche, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Cotulla's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 13-6. As for Natalia, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7-1 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cotulla will square off against Crystal City at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Javelinas have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.62 runs per game on average), something the Cowboys will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Natalia, they will challenge Dilley at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Mustangs are facing the Wolves at the right time seeing as the Wolves are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
