Sparta is 0-4 against Forsyth since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Sparta Trojans are on the road again and play against the Forsyth Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on December 18th. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Sparta beat Carthage 43-33. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Sparta has scored all season.
Jacob Lafferty continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 14 rebounds. The matchup was his seventh in a row with at least ten points. Walker Loveland was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Meanwhile, Forsyth entered their tilt with Waynesville with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Forsyth came out on top against Waynesville by a score of 61-49 on Tuesday. Given Forsyth's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 153rd, while Waynesville is ranked 385th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sparta pushed their record up to 7-0 with that victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.6 points per game. As for Forsyth, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
Sparta came up short against Forsyth in their previous matchup back in January of 2019, falling 54-49. Can Sparta avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
