Basketball Recap: Benjamin Takes a Loss

Benjamin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost to the Pine Crest Panthers at home by a 75-60 margin. While losing is never fun, the Buccaneers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 521st, while the Panthers are ranked 128th).

Despite the loss, Benjamin still got an impressive performance from Drew Buchanan, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. Buchanan is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last three games he's played. Logan Buchanan was another key player, putting up nine points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Benjamin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Pine Crest's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rowan Hoffman, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 11 rebounds. That's the most points Hoffman has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ethan Mott, who posted 22 points.

Benjamin's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Pine Crest, their record is now 10-2.

Benjamin didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 78-42 defeat against Saint Andrew's on the 7th. As for Pine Crest, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 66-54 win against Sheridan Hills Christian on the 7th.
