The Bluff City Gray Wolves entered their tilt with the Hamilton Wildcats with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Bluff City snuck past Hamilton with a 53-48 victory on Tuesday. Given Bluff City's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 147th, while Hamilton is ranked 328th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bluff City to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lakeva Applewhite, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 rebounds set a new season-high mark for Applewhite. Asya Wood was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Bluff City pushed their record up to 5-1 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. As for Hamilton, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-6.
Bluff City will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Freedom Prep Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Hamilton will be home for the holidays to greet First Assembly Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
