The Mingus Marauders lost against the Flagstaff Eagles on January 8th, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Mingus fell 59-47 to Flagstaff. Mingus has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Mingus saw an underclassman step up: Ricky Villalobos scored 21 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Villalobos has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Cook, who scored 12 points.
Flagstaff got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jake Centner out in front who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Connor O'brien-piubeni, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Mingus has been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-16 record this season. As for Flagstaff, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mingus will take on Prescott at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Flagstaff, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Bradshaw Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th. Hopefully Bradshaw Mountain focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Thursday.
