Baseball Recap: Simmons Comes Up Short

Simmons is still winless after their matchup against Leland on Friday, but the team can take solace in the fact it was the closest they've come to winning. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 14-12 heartbreaker at the hands of the Cubs. That's two games in a row now that the Blue Devils have lost by exactly two runs.

Simmons saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyrone Buchanan, who scored four runs and stole six bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another was Nathaniel Singleton, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 1-for-3.

Even though they lost, Simmons always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Simmons' loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Leland, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Simmons will face off against Humphreys County at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Simmons will need to watch out since Humphreys County has now posted at least ten runs in their last six games. As for Leland, they will take on Leflore County at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Leland is facing Leflore County at the right time seeing as Leflore County is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
