St. Joseph has gone a perfect 9-0 against Guy-Perkins recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Bulldogs will look to defend their home field against the Thunderbirds at 4:00 p.m. St. Joseph is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
St. Joseph took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Nemo Vista an 8-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Red Hawks: they've now won six in a row.
The result came thanks to Trevor Jackson's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Owen Coney and Xavier Stobaugh did most of the damage at the plate: Coney went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Stobaugh scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Stobaugh also hit a double, marking his first of the season. George Heer was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Guy-Perkins took on Mayflower on Friday. The Thunderbirds lost 19-4 to the Eagles. The Thunderbirds have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Guy-Perkins saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Owen Glover, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
St. Joseph pushed their record up to 10-2 with the victory, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Guy-Perkins, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. St. Joseph has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .560. However, it's not like Guy-Perkins struggles in that department as they've averaged .502. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went St. Joseph's way against Guy-Perkins when the teams last played back in March, as St. Joseph made off with a 15-0 victory. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Thunderbirds have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
