The Caldwell Hornets will venture away from home to square off against the Smithville Tigers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Caldwell's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three matches.
On Tuesday, Caldwell got the win against Navasota by a conclusive 15-2. Considering the Hornets have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Callie Fletcher was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two).
In other batting news, Jaelyn Gest was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Mayzi Witherwax, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Caldwell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .394 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Smithville won against Giddings on Friday with five runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. Smithville came out on top against Giddings by a score of 5-1. The victory was nothing new for the Tigers as they're now sitting on three straight.
Like Caldwell, Smithville also got a great game from a two-way player: Addison Otto. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit over seven innings pitched. Otto has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kenna Tiner, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Caldwell has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-8-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. Smithville's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-5-1.
Everything went Caldwell's way against Smithville in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Caldwell made off with a 9-2 win. Does Caldwell have another victory up their sleeve, or will Smithville turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
