Even though the South Rowan Raiders have not done well against the Carson Cougars recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. South Rowan really took it to Carson for the full four quarters, racking up a 61-31 win on the road. With South Rowan ahead 38-17 at the half, the game was all but over already.
South Rowan's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ari Alston, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Alston has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kynlee Dextraze, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Carson's loss came despite strong showings from Julia Burleson and Rylee Hedrick. Burleson scored six points, while Hedrick scored four points along with four steals.
Even though they lost, Carson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
South Rowan's victory bumped their record up to 3-10. As for Carson, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-13.
South Rowan will head out on the road to challenge Northwest Cabarrus at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Northwest Cabarrus will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Carson won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Statesville at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in North Carolina (Statesville is ranked 508th, while Carson is ranked 528th).
