The Genoa-Hugo Pirates pushed their score all the way to 38 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were beaten by Cheyenne Wells 69-38. Genoa-Hugo has struggled against Cheyenne Wells recently, as their matchup on Saturday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Genoa-Hugo still got an impressive performance from Konner Rowden-Stum, who rushed for 116 yards and four touchdowns on only eight carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Smith, who threw for 169 yards and a touchdown.
Cheyenne Wells' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Perry Chadwick, who threw for 166 yards and four touchdowns on only ten passes, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. Trey Scheler also deserves a shout-out for his three touchdowns.
Genoa-Hugo has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for Cheyenne Wells, their win ended a three-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-5.
Genoa-Hugo will head out on the road to face off against Hanover at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hanover will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. Cheyenne Wells will take on Branson/Kim at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Branson/Kim is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
