The Auburn Mountainview Lions will face off against the Jefferson Raiders at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Auburn Mountainview has four straight victories, Jefferson has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Auburn Mountainview's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They blew past Beamer 18-0. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by seven runs or more this season.
Brynna Erdmann was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Melanie Duran was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs and two stolen bases.
Auburn Mountainview was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .567. They are a perfect 11-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Jefferson couldn't beat White River on Monday even though they stacked five runs on them in the fifth inning. The Raiders came up short against the Hornets, falling 18-6.
Molly Burt was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Lyla Smith, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Auburn Mountainview pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Jefferson, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-12.
Jefferson's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Auburn Mountainview has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 14.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Jefferson, though, as they've been averaging 15.2 hits. Given Auburn Mountainview's sizable advantage in that area, the Raiders will need to find a way to close that gap.
Auburn Mountainview took their win against Jefferson in their previous meeting on April 2nd by a conclusive 14-1 score. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
