Wharton has gone 9-1 against Wiregrass Ranch recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Wildcats will challenge the Bulls at 7:00 p.m. Wharton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Wharton fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Alonso on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Ravens by a score of 4-3. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Wharton got a good showing from Chase Andress, who struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Andress has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Wharton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alex Johnstone, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Wiregrass Ranch came up short against Cypress Creek on Thursday and fell 14-9. While the Bulls didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Coyotes 7-3 in the first period.
Pedro Castro made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Bodie Benortham, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Wiregrass Ranch has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for Wharton, their loss dropped their record down to 19-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wharton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wiregrass Ranch struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Wharton was able to grind out a solid win over Wiregrass Ranch in their previous matchup back in May of 2022, winning 7-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
