If the Montrose Red Hawks were riding high off their 53-33 takedown of the Palisade Bulldogs last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Montrose fell 57-44 to Glenwood Springs on Tuesday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Montrose came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 25th, while Glenwood Springs is ranked 123rd).
When it comes to explaining why Montrose lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kaleb Ferguson. Despite the final result, he scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Jaxon Kattner, who scored nine points.
Montrose's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-2. As for Glenwood Springs, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Montrose will take on Eagle Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Eagle Valley's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matches. As for Glenwood Springs, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Palisade at 7:30 p.m. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Hunter Howard and Sim Wenger.
