The Oviedo Lions posted their biggest victory since December 7, 2023 on Tuesday. They blew past Winter Springs 59-39. Winning is a bit easier when you make five more threes than your opponent, as Oviedo did.
Oviedo got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Leah Hopkins out in front who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 19 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hopkins has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Maleah Dupa, who scored 15 points along with seven steals.
Despite the defeat, Winter Springs saw an underclassman step up: Summer Mason scored 14 points along with two steals. Mason's trending in the right direction, as she's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Destiny Santiago, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Oviedo's win bumped their record up to 8-10. As for Winter Springs, they have fallen quite a ways from their 22-6 record last season and are now at 3-10.
Oviedo will head out on the road to square off against Lyman at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lyman is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Winter Springs, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Wekiva at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Wekiva focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 last Friday.
