Colby is 8-2 against Hugoton since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. Colby will square off against Hugoton at 4:00 p.m. Colby is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Colby narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Scott 3-2. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Beavers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Ryler Carter spent all 11 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Colby's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kenley Moss, who went 1-for-5 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Hugoton fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Goodland last Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cowboys by a score of 11-10. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Addison Garza made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and fired off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-5. Those RBI marked the first that she has brought in this season. Kinley Howie was another key player, going 4-for-5 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Colby's victory bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Hugoton, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.
Hugoton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Colby has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Hugoton, though, as they've been averaging 12.2 hits. Given Colby's sizable advantage in that area, Hugoton will need to find a way to close that gap.
Colby got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 against Hugoton by a conclusive 13-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for Colby since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
