The South Bend Clay Colonials pushed their score all the way to 55 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 65-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of South Bend St. Joseph. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for South Bend Clay in their matchups with South Bend St. Joseph: they've now lost seven in a row.
South Bend Clay's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyrese Jones, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. Jones hasn't dropped below 18 points for five straight games. Kelin Webster was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds.
South Bend St. Joseph was led to victory by Jayce Lee and Chase Konieczny. Lee dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Konieczny dropped a double-double on 19 points and 20 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jerry Barca, who scored seven points.
South Bend Clay now has a losing record at 8-9. As for South Bend St. Joseph, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-7.
South Bend Clay will head out on the road to take on South Bend Career Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Bend Clay is facing South Bend Career Academy at the right time seeing as South Bend Career Academy is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for South Bend St. Joseph, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Glenn at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Bend St. Joseph knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully Glenn likes a good challenge.
