Bunker Hill has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Lincolnton Wolves at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in North Carolina (Bunker Hill is ranked 440th, while Lincolnton is ranked 420th).
Bunker Hill scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat West Iredell 61-27 at home. That looming 61-27 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Bunker Hill yet this season.
Bunker Hill can attribute much of their success to Damireona Burch, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds, and MyKyiah Lafone, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and seven steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Burch has scored at least 25% of Bunker Hill's points. Jaydn Shoup was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Lincolnton's four-game losing streak came to an end on Tuesday. They came out on top against Cherryville by a score of 51-41.
Lincolnton's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Camellia Holland, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Sarah Rhyne, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Bunker Hill's victory ended a 13-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-5. As for Lincolnton, their win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-4.
Bunker Hill skirted past Lincolnton 50-48 in their previous meeting back in January. Does Bunker Hill have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lincolnton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
