For only the second time this season, the No. 1 team in the MaxPreps Top 25 high school baseball rankings remains unchanged as
IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.)
won both of its games last week to improve to 10-0.
Preseason
No. 1
Parkview (Lilburn, Ga.),
JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) and
Calvary Christian (Clearwater, Fla.) fell from the top spot in back-to-back-to-back weeks, clearing the way for IMG Academy.
No. 2
Barbe (Lake Charles, La.) was not as fortunate as it
dropped a 4-2 decision to
Sam Houston (Lake Charles, La.) two days after
beating its crosstown rival. While the loss dropped the Buccaneers to
No. 6, the win for Sam Houston allowed the Broncos to move into the
rankings at No. 20.
Other newcomers this week include
Thompson (Alabaster, Ala.) at No. 21,
Concordia Lutheran (Tomball, Texas) at No.
22,
T.C. Roberson (Asheville, N.C.) at No. 23,
Rancho Bernardo (San Diego, Calif.) at No. 24 and
Silo (Okla.) at No. 25.
Dropped out: No. 9
Edwardsville (Ill.); No. 10
De La Salle (Concord, Calif.); No. 13
Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.); No. 19
West Monroe (La.); No. 20
Sulphur (La.);
No. 25
Broken Arrow (Okla.)Game
of the Week: IMG Academy def. Silo, 3-1. The Rebels had won 60
straight games prior to losing to IMG Academy, but the loss may have
done more to legitimize Silo's program under Billy Jack Bowen more than
any of the wins. Silo limited the No. 1 team in the nation to three runs – its second-lowest total of the season – and had the tying run at the
plate in the top of the seventh when the game ended. Silo is a 2A team
in Oklahoma and has an enrollment of just under 200 students.
Player of the Week: Kai Decker of
Houston County (Warner Robins, Ga.) went 10-for-11 with eight RBI, two doubles and a home run.
Game
to watch: IMG Academy vs.
Archbishop McCarthy (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.). At one time, the
Mavericks were the top team in the country, averaging 28 wins a season
under coach Rich Bielski from 2009 to 2017. Archbishop McCarthy has
averaged 15 wins a season since (not counting 2020), but is off to an
11-0 start this year and ranked No. 5 in this week's rankings. IMG
Academy is also undefeated and ranked No. 1.
Streaks: Silo
saw its 60-game win streak come to an end with a 3-1 loss to IMG
Academy.
Limon (Colo.), meanwhile, had its 46-game win streak end with a
season-opening loss to
Fowler.
