Murphysboro is 2-8 against Carterville since March of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Red Devils will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lions at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Murphysboro's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They came out on top against Harrisburg by a score of 3-0 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).

Not much got past Blaire Fox, who gave up just five hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Harrisburg off the board. Fox has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kylie Powell, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
Meanwhile, Carterville put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Massac County as they made off with a 6-0 victory. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by six runs or more this season.
The result came thanks to Caidence Phillips's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 16 Ks.
At the plate, Addyson Wright was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Masyn Kries, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Carterville hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Massac County struck out 16 times.
Carterville's win bumped their record up to 19-0. As for Murphysboro, their victory bumped their record up to 7-10.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Murphysboro has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Carterville struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 14 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Murphysboro might still be hurting after the 16-0 loss they got from Carterville in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Red Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
