Yorkville and Minooka are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Foxes will venture away from home to challenge the Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Yorkville had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Bolingbrook on Tuesday. The Foxes blew past the Raiders 11-1.
Callie Ferko was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one double. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Another player making a difference was Kayla Kersting, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-1.
Meanwhile, Minooka waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Wolves. Considering the Indians have won five matches by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Minooka also got a great performance from Marina Hristov as she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Hristov has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ava Carlson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Gracie Anderson was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
Minooka was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .538. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .344 or higher in four consecutive games.
Minooka's record now sits at 7-4. As for Yorkville, their victory ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 8-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Yorkville hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Minooka struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
