After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pace Academy, the Mt. Zion Bulldogs were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Hampton 45-42. That's another feather in the cap for Mt. Zion, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Jaki Bell continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 17 points along with two steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Mt. Zion's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Devante Burgest, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Hampton still got an impressive performance from Jordan Townsend, who scored 24 points. That was a full 57.1% of Hampton's points, marking the 12th time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Mt. Zion's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-15. As for Hampton, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-17.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mt. Zion won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Luella at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st. Mt. Zion is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 56.9 points per game this season. As for Hampton, they will be playing at home against Stockbridge at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hampton is coming into the match with ten straight defeats at home, so Stockbridge is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
