Coolidge is on a ten-game streak of home wins, while Florence is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Coolidge Bears will take on the Florence Gophers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Coolidge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Saturday.
Coolidge scored the most points they've had all season to find success. They claimed a resounding 112-42 victory over Globe at home. Coolidge has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 25 points or more this season.
Coolidge can attribute much of their success to Ja'kwan Jordan, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and five steals, and Tory Gholston, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 assists. Jordan is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last 11 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Slaughter, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Florence struggled with threes on Thursday (Gilbert Christian had six more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Florence fell to Gilbert Christian 60-54. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Florence in their matchups with Gilbert Christian: they've now lost four in a row.
Florence's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Logan Stenson, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Adrian Taufaasau who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. Stenson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Darren Swain, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Coolidge's win bumped their record up to 15-5. As for Florence, their loss dropped their record down to 14-8.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Coolidge hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 65.4 points per game. However, it's not like Florence struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 56 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Coolidge couldn't quite finish off Florence in their previous matchup two weeks ago and fell 51-48. Will Coolidge have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get analysis of the match and other basketball content.
