The Mattawan Wildcats's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Lakeshore Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on February 1st. Hopefully Mattawan focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Mattawan came up short against the Bulldogs and fell 53-43.
Delaney Elsmore put forth a good effort for the losing side as she dropped a double-double on 28 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Caitlin Ryan, who scored five points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, Lakeshore didn't have too much trouble with the Bears at home on Friday as they won 39-21. Given Lakeshore's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while the Bears are ranked 472nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mattawan's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-5. As for Lakeshore, their victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2.
Mattawan might still be hurting after the 52-32 loss they got from the Lancers in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Can Mattawan avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
