Softball Recap: Millennium Wins Going Away Against San Luis

Millennium had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt San Luis on Thursday. The Millennium Tigers blew past the San Luis Sidewinders 9-1.

Charlotte McCloskey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. McCloskey was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs.

McCloskey wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nayelli Banuelos, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. What's more, Banuelos posted two RBI, the most she's had over her last 15 games. Cassie Garza was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Millennium hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 4-2 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Millennium is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. San Luis dropped their record down to 3-7 with the loss, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Millennium and San Luis could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings. Millennium will face off against Desert Vista at 3:45 p.m. on Monday down 86 places (117 vs. 31). Millennium has given up an average of 8.7 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. Meanwhile, San Luis (ranked 140th) will meet Verrado (ranked fourth) at 3:45 p.m. on March 27th.
