Hidalgo Early College hasn't had much luck against Calallen recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Pirates will square off against the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Hidalgo Early College has given up an average of 43.2 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Last Friday, Hidalgo Early College took a blow against Zapata, falling 48-21.
Even if they lost, Hidalgo Early College's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. Another thorn in Zapata's side was Caleb Cisneros, who picked up a sack and made eight total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Calallen had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 40 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They blew past the Hawks 27-3. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by 24 points or more this season.
Calallen's win came from a few key players Hidalgo Early College will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Connor Klostermann, who rushed for 28 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also threw for 70 yards and one TD on only six passes. Ricardo Rodrguez helped out on the ground, rushing for 86 yards and a rushing touchdown.
Calallen was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 261 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 153 rushing yards in 16 consecutive games dating back to last season.
Calallen's record now sits at 7-2. As for Hidalgo Early College, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.

Friday's contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Roberto Gallegos and Rodrguez. Gallegos just won't slow down this season and has run in 6 touchdowns while averaging 115.4 rushing yards per game. Rodrguez has been a dominant force too and has run in 11 touchdowns while averaging 77.3 rushing yards per game.
Hidalgo Early College took a serious blow against Calallen in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, falling 57-0. Can the Pirates avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
