The Harlingen Cardinals waltzed into their game Tuesday with 15 straight wins but they left with 16. They came out on top in a nail-biter against United South and snuck past 62-60. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Harlingen's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Luis Rodriguez, who scored 30 points. The contest was Rodriguez's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Ruben Gonzalez was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
Harlingen pushed their record up to 21-3 with that win, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for United South, their loss dropped their record down to 14-7.
Harlingen will finish 2023 at home by hosting Edinburg North at 1:30 p.m. on December 28th. As for United South, they will head out on the road to face off against Somerset at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. Somerset will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 450th, while United South is ranked 187th).
