Northern recap Oct. 3, 2012
West Valley's Austin Clark rumbled for the longest rushing play in Northern this season in his game against Pleasant Valley last week. Clark's team bested the Vikings as he sprinted for 65 yards on the play and finished with 279 in all.
Anderson moved up to 737 from 789 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 49-6 win over Gridley helped the Cubs improve their standing.
Frank Shepherd was the best wideout in the league this week as Lassen topped Corning. Shepherd tallied five receptions for 85 yards. Jarrell Cunningham helped Lassen's passing attack out by catching five balls for 55 yards.
Jason Cruickshank put up the best numbers through the air as Anderson defeated the Bulldogs. He finished with a total of two completions for 61 yards and two touchdowns. Cruickshank's favorite target this week was Jeremiah Emershy, who caught one pass for 47 yards.
6-foot-0 quarterback Kaden Culp of Yreka is the league leader in passing yards this season with 635. He has also thrown three touchdowns. On the ground, West Valley's Clark has rushed for 648 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Shepherd. The Lassen star has 19 catches for 271 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Tim Patterson's team takes on the Miners. As it stands, the Cubs are in fifth, while Yreka is in first.
Anderson took down Gridley 49-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Cruickshank ran for 104 yards in the win.
