Oakwood barely beat Schlarman the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Comets never let the Hilltoppers get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Comets, who have now won six games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Chase Harrison and Xander Wilson made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Harrison pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Wilson tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Harrison is becoming a predictor of Oakwood's success: when he allows at most three hits the team is 4-1 (and 7-8 when he doesn't). At bat, Harrison got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Wilson went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Carsen Dudley and Brandt Hobick did most of the damage at the plate: Dudley got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Hobick went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Hobick has become a key player for Oakwood: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 8-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Weston Frazier, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Oakwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .471. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Oakwood pushed their record up to 11-9 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Schlarman, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6.
Looking ahead, Oakwood will welcome North Vermillion at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Comets are facing the Falcons at the right time seeing as the Falcons are stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Schlarman, they will head out to square off against Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Buffaloes have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.19 runs per game on average), something the Hilltoppers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
